Landing craft style boat is loaded with innovative technologies and powerful firefighting system.
SUPERIOR, Wis. (July 26, 2017) – Lake Assault Boats, part of Fraser Shipyards and a leading manufacturer of purpose-built, mission-specific fire and rescue boats, is showcasing a 28-foot fireboat at booth #3419 on July 27-29 at Fire Rescue International (FRI) at the Charlotte Convention Center in Charlotte, North Carolina. The craft features a number of innovative technologies, including the Mercury Joystick Piloting and Skyhook Digital Anchor systems for unmatched boat control, and enhanced safety and performance.
“Lake Assault boats is enjoying a banner year, as we support fire departments and firefighting organizations across the country with custom-built craft that meet their unique requirements,” said Chad DuMars, Lake Assault Boats Vice President of Operations. “And with many new customers coming on board – like the Pittsburgh Bureau of Fire and the Tahoe Douglas Fire Protection District – we are very excited about the future.”
The vessel on display at FRI features a 28 foot hull length, a 9-foot 6-inch beam, and a fully- loaded weight rating of 12,500 lbs. Manufactured from high-strength marine-grade 5083 and 5086 aluminum, the hull and superstructure are MIG- and TIG-welded throughout for added strength and long life.
It includes twin Mercury Verado 250 hp outboard engines capable of reaching greater than 45 mph. The Lake Assault-exclusive Mercury Joystick Piloting system provides safe and easy one-handed maneuvering in tight spaces – even in a big fireboat with multiple engines. The Digital Anchor system uses GPS technology and an electronic compass to automatically control shifting, throttling and steering.
The firefighting system includes a Darley fire pump rated at 1500 GPM that is powered by a dedicated 365 hp V-8 engine (marinized by Kodiak Marine). The Typhoon fire monitor is equipped with pressure and GPM flow gauges. Other features include dual Garmin 12-inch touchscreens, 4G radar, sonar with side/structure scanning capabilities, a VHF marine radio, a forward looking infrared (FLIR) system, a 900 pound capacity Davit crane, and a 63-inch hydraulically operated bow door.
